Epic confirms Gears of War: Exile has been cancelled

Publish date: 2022-12-01

Epic Games has acknowledged that Gears of War: Exile, a franchise spin-off first rumoured back in 2010, once existed but has since been cancelled.

Design director Cliff Bleszinski broke the studio's silence in an interview with GameSpot over the weekend.

"Let's just bury the hatchet now," he said. "Gears of War: Exile was an unannounced game that I can't give any details about that has since been cancelled."

A planned reveal at the 2010 Spike VGA event was apparently pulled at the last minute for unspecified reasons.

A few months later, reports suggested that the title was to be an on-rails Kinect shooter and that a gameplay demo re-used sections of Gears of War 2.

Epic has since announced its next project will be scavenging adventure Fortnite, details of which are still thin on the ground.
