Pokémon Go Alolan Pokémon Forms list, how to get Alolan Raichu, Alolan Marowak and other Alola Pokémon

Publish date: 2023-02-23

Pokémon Go Alolan Pokémon have arrived, introducing a new type of creature to catch while exploring out in the wild.

It's a bit of a break from form for Pokémon Go and developer Niantic - Alolan Forms were introduced in Gen 7 of the main games (Pokémon Sun, Moon, Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon), and we're only up to Gen 3 at the time of writing! - but seeing as there's a bit of history there for elements of Alola creeping into Pokémon Go, maybe it's less surprising than we first thought.

We now know how to get all forms - including the most recently added Alolan Raichu and Alolan Marowak.

Additionally, our Alolan Forms list provides you with images and differences with these Alolan Forms' new types, so you know which Kanto Pokémon have Alolan Forms.

On this page:

How do Alolan Pokémon work in Pokémon Go?

Alolan Forms are visually and often statistically different version of Pokémon - giving them different Types and properties - and first debuted in the main games are exclusively found in the Gen 7 region of Alola.

Alolan Pokémon appear as Forms, similar to other creatures with multiple Forms such as Castform.

Though they won't take up a new Pokedex entry, they will have their own field within that entry, which is also how Shinies work.

Like Castform, these Alolan Forms will show up as silhouettes on your radar, helping you find them easier.

Because they are Forms, the good news is they share the Candy of the Pokémon they based on. So if you have plenty of Grimer Candy from when you have caught them in the past, and hatch an Alolan Grimer, you can instantly evolve it into an Alolan Muk.

Also, as of June 2019, all Alolan Pokemon can be shiny.

How to get every currently available Alolan Pokémon in Pokémon Go

Interestingly, Alolan Pokémon are being released in a variety of ways, instead of a simple broad 'luck-based encounter' method with Shinies:

The Season of Go has arrived! The Pokémon TCG Crossover event is here, which includes the release of Wimpod and Golisopod. While Go Fest 2022 may be behind us, there are still three special research quests you might be working on - Pokémon Go Fest 2022, Rhi's Arrival and A Radiant World. Meanwhile, the Great League and Great League and Great League Remix are currently running in the Go Battle League Season 11. This season has also seen the lowering of the level requirement for Candy XL and introduced the first Ultra Beast, Nihilego.
