Pokémon Go bug makes newly-released creatures invisible

Publish date: 2023-02-01

Pokémon Go's latest event, Rivals' Week, began this morning at 10am - but some players report they cannot see its two new Pokémon additions.

The sea dragon-like Skrelp and the shrimp-like Clauncher became available in Pokémon Go for the first time today - but not to those using older versions of the game's app.

What's happening is that these Pokémon's in-game models aren't loading - meaning they're invisible - though they're still technically on the map and can be caught using Pokémon Go Plus or Gotcha devices.

Developer Niantic has now acknowledged the error and advised players to update their game to the most recent version - which, ironically, players were holding off on to avoid different bugs this new version introduces.

Trainers, due to a bug, Skrelp and Clauncher cannot be seen on versions of Pokémon GO older than 0.205. As a result, Trainers on older versions of the app may not be able to catch them. Please update your app to the latest version as a workaround, while we work on a fix.
