Super Mario Odyssey Music List - How to unlock the 82 songs in music gallery

Publish date: 2022-10-17

The Super Mario Odyssey Music List is another collectible to give the game's post-game adventure even more legs.

Rather than an being a clothing item or a form of decoration, this collectible is a little more creative. It's music!

The Music List is added to your Lists (press 'Y' while on the map screen) and is updated every time you enter a new level or mini-game location.

Super Mario Odyssey Music List explained

There are sixteen types of music in game, defined by either the kingdom it was found in or by a general theme or use. So there's:

Even entering a 2D, 8-bit level in a given kingdom unlocks a new track as these sections have bit tune versions of the theme playing in that region or area.

It's a brilliant way to enjoy the best Mario soundtrack ever, and the mode even lets you play any music you've collected straight from the Music List menu.

Oh, and if you select a new track in the Music List menu, it'll keep playing that track instead of the default music for that world.

Falling asleep listening to the chill out Honeylune Ridge theme on the Moon Kingdom? Why not swap it out for something more upbeat like the amazing Bowser's Castle 2 or the big band sound of New Donk City (Band Performance)?

There's even an extra layer to this new music-based dimension. If you search hard enough in each kingdom, you'll occasionally come across a blue toad playing some tunes on his oversized headphones. He'll ask to listen to a specific piece of music.

Simply load it up from the Music List and he'll gift you with a Power Moon for your troubles. Just remember he won't appear until after you finish the main part of the story.

Need more help? Our Super Mario Odyssey guide and walkthrough goes through every objective in each Kingdom, while our Power Moon locations can help you track down the likes of Cascade Kingdom Power Moons, Sand Kingdom Power Moons, Metro Kingdom and New Donk City Power Moons and more collectables. We also have Purple Coin locations for each Kingdom, and if you want to know what to spend it on, we have a hats list, outfits list, stickers list, a souvenirs list as well as a music list to kit out the appearance of both Mario and the Odyssey. Once you've finished the game, check out the free Balloon World update, too.

How to complete the Music List in Super Mario Odyssey

There are currently 82 tracks in the whole game, and you'll pick up a good chunk of them throughout the main story.

For any you might be missing, look out for 'small world' (specific hidden challenges that require you to rely on platform techniques to reach a Power Moon or two) entrances or other mini-game challenges where you disappear into a Warp Pipe or pass through a hat door.

These sometimes sometimes have 8-bit sections, too, effectively doubling the music track haul for that area.

Even less obvious things, such as the music playing while you're in the Crazy Cap store and the tune that pumps away during Koopa Freerunning races. Even the transition phase between kingdoms has a piece of music that registers on the list.

If it helps - or you simply want to listen to the game's soundtrack outside of playing - the above embedded YouTube video by Dysifyzer is the first track in the complete set of music from the game.
