Purple Top Hats are one of many varients on the Purple Coin collectibles you'll find dotted around the world in Super Mario Odyssey.

Our Purple Hat locations guide here on this page will take you through how and where to find them in the Capy Kingdom, providing specific locations for tricky ones and general tips and tricks for hunting down the rest.

For locations on all the other varients, head back to our Super Mario Odyssey Purple Coin locations hub, or you can cycle back to our main Super Mario Odyssey guide and walkthrough for complete details on every step of your adventure.

Super Mario Odyssey Purple Hat locations - how to find Purple Top Hats

Much like the Mushroom Kingdom (which is unlocked after the main story is completed - you can find a guide to its Regional Coins here), the Cap Kingdom is a relatively open-plan level that keeps much of its Regional Coins in relatively easy to spot places.

There are some exceptions. Around the level is a dense white fog that blankets the ground like a ghostly sea. It rises a falls like a real ocean, often hiding secret tunnels, openings and cap houses where Regional Coins are hiding. If you're stuck, head for the top-right of the map and look for the green and yellow binoculars on a raised platform.

With this device you can scan and zoom in mosts of the map from on high. Perfect for spotting easy to miss Regional Coins - especially those blanketed in the deep surrounding fog.

To start stocking up, you'll find three coins (which are shaped like top hats in this kingdom) behind the Odyssey and another three in a recess in the top right-hand corner of the opening area (before the cross the bridge).

Talking of the bridge, there are three coins above the sign at the far end of the first bridge. Just look for the brass top hat sign (which will glow as it contains a Power Moon - check out our guide for those here). You can reach these by jumping up onto the archway from the left or right.

Underneath the platform with the Binoculars, you'll see a wall of six wooden crates. Destroy them to claim three more coins in the alcove that's revealed. On the other side of the Binoculars, look out into the fog to see another set of coins on a distant cap house. It's patrolled by a Paragoomba.

Need more help? Our Super Mario Odyssey guide and walkthrough goes through every objective in each Kingdom, while our Power Moon locations can help you track down the likes of Cascade Kingdom Power Moons, Sand Kingdom Power Moons, Metro Kingdom and New Donk City Power Moons and more collectables. We also have Purple Coin locations for each Kingdom, and if you want to know what to spend it on, we have a hats list, outfits list, stickers list, a souvenirs list as well as a music list to kit out the appearance of both Mario and the Odyssey. Once you've finished the game, check out the free Balloon World update, too.

To find one, turn right and start climbing the ledges leading to the main tower. There's a Paragoomba at the top. Knock off his hat and hit him again to possess him. Fly over the barrier and towards the house to land and collect the coins. The other Paragoomba won't bother you.

Now look back at the area you just came from. When the god drops, you'll see four coins underneath the raised platform where Peach will be standing after you complete the game. Under the archway to the left of this will be four more coins on a submerged cap house. Fly across to claim these, being very careful to not drop too low as you fly.

On the same ledge as the scarecrow, look for a wooden stopper inside a gap in the wall. Pull it out to reveal four hidden coins in a row. There's also another three coins behind three stoppers in the main area near the Crazy Cap shop.

Grab three above the door of the main tower. Inside the main tower, possess a frog, head back to where you came in, and use the blocks on the floor (by the wall), and the secret ones above it to reach out the top. Four coins await you. You'll find a column of five in the second pool of water, just after the mini Goombas.
