What are the red and blue lines on the Fortnite map?
The red and blue lines on the Fortnite map are a new addition with the arrival of Chapter 3 Season 2.
The new season centres around a war between two factions - the Resistance and IO - and has introduced a number of changes, including the temporary removal of building and an increased focus on vaulting and movement.
The red and blue lines, in short, give you an idea of where the Resistance and IO are located on the map - and it's worth knowing the differences if you want to find specific vehicles or weapons, especially as these lines might change as the season progresses.

New additions include Reality Seeds and Saplings and riding animals, along with the new Battle Pass, characters collection and map changes. It's a good idea to know how to get XP fast in Fortnite.
What are the red and blue lines on the Fortnite map?
Newly added to the Fortnite map in Chapter 3 Season 2 are red and blue lines, which circle certain regions and named locations.
These indicate Resistance or IO controlled areas, meaning you'll find faction-specific enemies, vehicles and weapons within each region. This is particularly important when factoring in faction-specific objectives.
The red lines are IO-controlled areas, and the blue lines are Resistance-controlled areas.
At each location you'll find the following:
- Red lines (IO) - IO Blimps, IO Titan Tanks, IO Guards, Siege Cannons
- Blue lines (Resistance) - Armored Battle Bus, Sentry Guards, Turrets, weapons including the Combat SMG and Striker Burst Rifle
The blue (Resistance) areas are arguably 'friendlier' zones to explore, though the red (IO) regions have some powerful tools - including the IO Titan Tank, with a powerful cannon and a huge amount of health, and blimps which you can zip up and claim loot inside.
Chapter 3 Season 3 has arrived - bringing with it a new Battle Pass, character collection, map locations and Victory Umbrella! You can now ride animals, find Reality Seeds, and use the new Grapple Glove, and Victory Crowns have returned. If you're after a specific Battle Pass skin, then it's a good idea to know how to get XP fast.
You can expect the zones to shift as the season progresses - meaning your favourite areas could become more hostile or friendlier as time goes on!
