World of Warcraft is adding an option to restore deleted characters

Publish date: 2022-12-23

Historically video games have allowed us to raise the virtual dead. We even have a common term for this: respawning. But soon Blizzard will be going the extra mile with its eff you to the laws of nature by allowing players to resurrect deleted characters.

This new feature will be available shortly via the pre-Warlords of Draenor content patch.

"Undeleting a character restores all of its enchantments, gems, and items fully intact," Blizzard explained on its World of Warcraft blog. "You'll be able to get back into action right away, and your character won't remember being deleted - we won't tell, either."

There are a few exceptions to this new feature, which are as follows:

Furthermore, when you delete a character Blizzard will hold onto their name to ensure that no one else takes it, lest you want to start a new character with the same moniker. However, if you do this, then decide to restore the original name-bearer, you'll have to rename, transfer or delete the new character. There's only room for one Leroy Jenkins in this world (of Warcraft) after all.
