Zelda: Breath of the Wild's Locked Mementos is a quest that follows Seek Out Impa and Kakariko Village and sees you head to a new destination - Hateno Village - in search for more abilities for your Shiekah Slate.

If you're after help for parts of the game, consult our Zelda: Breath of the Wild walkthrough and guide.

How to reach Hateno Village

From Kakariko Village, you want to head south the way you came, back over Kakariko bridge, where there is a sign post pointing you in the direction of Hateno Village to the east. If you haven't got a horse, then that's highly recommended to make the journey much faster.

Shortly down the road you'll come to a field full of fallen Guardians just before the area of Hateno Fort. It's worth jumping off and looting these Guardians for their Ancient trinkets, specifically Ancient Screws, which will become clear a little later on, but be wary one in the far left corner will come to life if you get too close.

Through the Fort wall is a hut on the right, and if you call in, you can chat to someone named Calip. Call him Doctor and you'll pick up The Cursed Statue shrine quest.

Continue east now, and you'll see Hateno Tower to the south of your path. We highly recommend heading here - and any future towers in unexplored regions - to flesh out your map. This one is fairly easy to approach - go across the river, past the Moblins, and start climbing past the barbs. Make sure you rest on every ledge as you climb and you'll reach the top no problem.

From here, head back to your horse and continue east to the Village - the route should be straightforward.

Hateno Village

Like Kakariko Village, there are plenty of distractions here if you want to take the time to do so. A few highlights (and not an exhaustive list of activities) includes:

When you're ready, head east out of the village and take the winding path up to the building perched on the cliff. This is Hateno Ancient Tech Lab. There's some farming equipment which make for good melee weapons outside, as well as a Sunshroom growing against one of the outside walls.

Inside, talk to Symin inside, then Pumin afterwards to be given a quick errand before you can get some Slate upgrades.

How to get the blue flame to Hateno Ancient Tech Lab

Grab the torch by the front door and glide off the cliff to the waypoint on the map, which takes you just north of the village.

At the blue flame furnace there, light your torch. If it's raining, you'll have to wait until the weather clears, perhaps by exploring the village and doing a side-quest.

When it's lit, you cannot take a direct route back thanks to the river being in the way, so head north and up the hill.

At the top is more water and a fence to the right. Head up the right incline onwards the fence - at an angle so you don't put the torch away - so the fence to the cattle pen is on your left. Continue going round, lightning lanterns as you go incase your torch goes out (such as if you accidentally sprint).

You'll very soon come to the main path, which is then a short walk back up to the Tech Lab. Light the furnace out front and it'll activate a fast travel point in future. Head inside and talk to Pumin, who will update your Slate and add the ability to add Captured Memories, flesh out your Hyrule Compendium, and take pictures.

You'll be given the Robbie's Research side-quest, and told to head to Impa back in Kakariko Village.

Before that, chat to her again for the Slated for Upgrades side-quest to update your slate. She requests Ancient materials for Slate upgrades:

Thanks to a new update, it's now possible to play Zelda Breath of the Wild in VR. Want help with the main game? Our Zelda: Breath of the Wild walkthrough can help complete Divine Beasts Vah Ruta, Vah Rudiana, Vah Medoh and Vah Naboris and more. There's also how to get the Master Sword, Hylian Shield and all Zelda Captured Memories and Great Fairy Fountain locations, while our Shrines locations and Shrine maps hub explains where to find and solve every puzzle room, including dragon locations and Labyrinth solutions. We also have a DLC 1 guide and DLC 2 guide, including all Tingle, Majora's Mask, Phantom, Midna outfit locations.

If you've been looting the ruined shells of Guardians dotted around the land (there are many just east of the Dueling Peaks Stables and before Hateno Fort) you should have plenty of springs. Once done, you'll get the Shiekah Sensor +, allowing it to sense something else than Shrines. After this, you can then chat to Symin and start the Sunshroom Sensing quest.

Get a Captured Memory

Now, head to Impa in Kakariko Village, who will complete the Locked Memories quest and start Captured Memories. You have to find one Captured Memory before she will talk to you once more.

There are many to choose from, but the easiest ones from here that are close to the starting Grand Plateau area are Memory 01, 03 or 13, which our Captured Memories locations page can help with.

Whatever you go for, head back to Impa, and this first Memory will see you receive the Champion's Tunic, a five strength armour piece that reveals an enemy's life gauge.

Additionally, now you have the camera, you can chat to Pikango standing outside the village pray statue to learn about the first Great Fairy Fountain in the Finding the Great Fairy quest.

Unless you want to track down those memories, now's a good time to start looking for those Divine Beasts. Good luck!
